Pick-to-Light

Pick-to-Light order picking technology utilizes light to direct a user to find an item quickly. Used in warehouse fulfillment operations, pick-to-light improves both speed and accuracy when picking. This occurs by eliminating the paper order resulting in fewer potential errors and a faster pick rate. Pick-to-light systems can be located on carousels, carton flow rack, shelving storage, static shelving and batch picking carts, etc. to indicate which items and quantities to pick. The light goes off by pushing a button to confirm each pick.

Put-to-Light

A put-to-light system is essentially a pick-to- light system in reverse. Rather than shipping the picked item, the item is returned as inventory into storage, either by carts, totes, bins, or where the lights indicate the items to be placed. Similar to the pick-to-light systems, put-to-lights can be located throughout the fulfillment center based on the design of the facility.

Lighted Batch Carts

Pick-to-Light and put-to-light are often used with lighted batch carts to enable batch or cluster picking of multiple orders at one time. While varying greatly in design and composition, lighted batch carts generally contain multiple shelves with totes or plastic storage bins. The purpose for these totes is to contain picked inventory until it is later sorted as needed. As with the pick and put systems, a light is used to indicate the placement of each item.
